Breast Cancer Awareness Month
When you ask people what is the first thing that comes to mind when I say October. Some think of fall, falling leaves and beautiful colors. Some think of the foods that are harvested like pumpkins and cranberries. Some think of Halloween and the fun of getting dressed up in costumes. While others like me remember those who died of breast cancer and think of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I first became aware of breast cancer, when my aunt had surgery for it back in 1969. I was 12 at the time, and I watched as my aunt Helen, on my father’s side, who was once vibrant, outgoing and very social, became a recluse in her own home. Not wanting to go out, and rarely having visitors. Again, when I was in my 20’s, I watched my aunt Pat, on my mother’s side struggle with the pain of breast cancer and chemotherapy. So today, I hope to spread the word and ask for everyone to do what they can so that you and others will not have to suffer.

Tea Totaller’s Total Health
Some of the best innovations, even natural ones, happen by accident. Tea was introduced over 5,000 years ago in China, when tea leaves fell from a bush into Chinese Emperor Shen Nung’s pot of boiling water. Being an avid herbalist, he tasted it. Soon after, tea was touted as a healing elixir for the body. Now, tea is second only to water as the most widely consumed beverage in the world. It has been used medicinally for centuries in India and China to remedy headaches, body aches and pains, digestion, depression, detoxification, as an energizer, to enhance immunity, and to prolong life. Studies now indicate and confirm that tea may well be a healing elixir for the body. Compounds in tea help protect against cancer and appear to counteract the chronic inflammation that contributes to heart disease, arthritis and other chronic illness.

Miracle Minerals Mud of The Dead Sea
People travel from all over the world to soak in the salty water and slather themselves in nutrient-rich mud on the shores of Israel’s Dead Sea. The Dead Sea has the reputation of healing your ailments and calming your mind. Legend says it was the Queen of Sheba who first believed in the mystical healing powers of the Dead Sea. Then Cleopatra traveled from Egypt to build the world's first spa there. Reportedly, Cleopatra was enamored with the Dead Sea's amazing health benefits and used its distinctive minerals in her legendary beauty treatments. Men have also indulged in the miracle minerals, two thousand years ago the Roman historian Josephus Flavius wrote that King Herod himself visited the Dead Sea's hot springs where he took the cure and found tranquility.

Spa Day (Magazine Version)
Labor Day started as the celebration of the value and dignity of work, and its role in the American way of life. Every day in spas across the nation, spa services are performed with the same honor of those who come for a respite from their everyday hard work. Spas have become a sanctuary where we recover from our busy over scheduled lives. At the spa, we feel honored, respected, celebrated and leave with a rejuvenated mind. We also leave feeling better prepared to handle all that life has to offer to us. The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday, a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Today, Labor Day Weekend is the summer’s last hurrah. Growing up in New York, Labor Day was the last day that the beaches and swimming pools would be open. It marked the end of summer and the beginning of school. Yes, soon, the warm sunny weather will be gone, the leaves will start to fall from the trees and we’ll all be preparing for the festivities of the fall and winter holiday seasons.

Now, spas are picking up the pregnancy pace as this unique client is walking through their doors seeking respite more than ever before. SPASKISS
Whether you say spa-ski-ss or spas-kiss, soon, we will kiss the hot summer days away with the marvelous merging of spas and skis. Now, is the time to plan for your winter holiday. This winter, you will not have to struggle with the choice of skiing or going to a spa resort, you can enjoy the new winter wonderland that has combined the best of both. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, you use to stand up the skis, take off your boots and lounge in the bars, by warm fireplaces, drinking hot drinks till the wee hours of the morning. Now, the new winter wonderland for snow warriors includes the two m’s, and one y, moguls, massage and yoga. Many ski resorts have offered post ski treatments in the past. However, new resorts, hotel makeovers, snowboards and improved modern facilities provide that little bit extra to ensure that you return from your ski vacation energized, refreshed and relaxed.

Fresh and Fruity Facials
Spa treatments that incorporate food have gained popularity over the years. This isn’t just hype, there are certain elements in food have proved beneficial for the skin. Calcium, for example, is found in apples, bananas, dairy products, and nuts, and has been known to improve bone and teeth development, as well as promote healthy skin, hair, and nails. When applied topically, foods containing calcium hydrates and nourishes dry, flaky skin. Another element, zinc, found in caviar, nuts, cocoa powder, and dairy products is useful in anti-aging and tissue rejuvenation treatments. I have often recommended zinc to my clients who have undergone surgery in order for their skin to heal faster. Ingredients like cocoa powder, bananas, wheat, nuts, and ginger include potassium that helps with muscle function and metabolism. When these foods are applied to the skin, they alleviate dryness and enhance elasticity.

Spa Suite Spa
According to the 2006 Spa & Fitness Survey, more than half of the travelers are likely to use spas and fitness centers when they travel. Now, when it comes to me and most of the people I know, we select the hotels and resorts we stay at based one-hundred percent on the amenities that the resort has. Yes, we definitely require a spa. If the resort does not have a spa, then the secondary consideration is the day spas in the immediate area. More and more travelers research their vacation and business travel needs on line. Travelers want to see where they will stay. Virtual tours, previous guest’s reviews and all inclusive packages, are becoming more critical in the decision of where to stay. No longer is it just the comfort of the bed and the quality of the restaurant. For consumers like me, want to see the spa. Resorts are now responding to the increase demands for spas, yoga, meditation, fitness and healthy food choices. Some resorts, are now offering spa-tacular spacious rooms. These spa suites incorporate luxury, convenience, comfort and a new level of feeling at home when you’re on the road.

Healing Gems
Gemstones have been valued throughout history for their beauty and rarity. As with many things that people value, legends have attached themselves to gemstones. Are gemstones infused with healing energy? What secrets do gems hold about ancient mysteries? How are today’s spa treatments utilizing these ancient energies to create positive change in you now? You will be surprised by the answers. Whether you know it or not, gemstones may be influencing your life. After shortly moving to Arizona, I discovered that very few people living in Arizona were actually born in Arizona. I began to wonder why it appeared that this phenomenon is more so here than any other place I have lived. I discovered that the Four Peaks Mountain Amethyst Mine located in Arizona, contains the largest gem deposit of amethyst in the United States. Could this be a coincidence that the state containing the most Amethyst is the state of change? After all, Amethyst is the stone of change and transition. Could that be why people needed change in their life come here for new Beginnings?

Watch YOURSELF Soar Like An Eagle!
Let’s start with the mind. Our mind has so much power and authority over all of us. It controls our entire being. It doesn’t matter how small or how large we are. Our minds are influenced by our perceptions of how our mind perceived the life we lived to date. Our mind then sets up ceilings for what we feel we can accomplish. It establishes the limitations we will then live by. I first heard of this when I was in a college psychology class where I learned of a study with fleas. Now, fleas have to jump very high in order to get onto their host to survive. They may have to jump a foot to get onto a cat, a dog or other animal. However, in this study, the minute the flea was born it was placed in a matchbox no higher than an inch to live. That flea following its natural instincts would try to jump high. However, it would hit its body on the roof, of the one inch matchbox, and quickly fall to the ground. After a short time period of doing this over and over and over, the flea in its little mind, learned that it should never jumped more than an inch. After the conditioning, the flea was removed from the matchbox. Now, the fleas could jump as high as he would like to. Unfortunately, this flea would never jump more than an inch. The flea’s body had not changed. He still had the capacity to jump high. However, his mind limited what his body would do.

VINOTHÉRAPIE - PURPLE POWER!
The power of the grape is in the antioxidants that are found in the red grape. According to research, grape seed polyphenols, which are antioxidant compounds found in grape seeds, form a protective layer on the skin and stimulate the renewal of cells and collagen. Polyphenols also clear up free radicals, which damage and age cells. The free-radical protection from grape-seed polyphenols is unequalled in the plant world. Dr Fredric Brandt, best known as the king of Botox, suggests that concentrated levels of grape antioxidants can retard and even reverse skin damage caused by free radicals. Many of the Wine therapy treatments also feature Resveratrol which is contained in grape vines. Resveratrol acts like a natural antibiotic to protect the vines against ultraviolet light and keep the vine looking healthy in the sun. Research has found out how to extract this from the vines and use this in skin treatments, as it firms the surface, improves elasticity and stimulates cell multiplication.
