The Day Spa Association and the Organic Trade Association have joined forces to introduce the Organic industry to the Day Spa industry.
“We have had a cordial relationship with OTA since 2000, whereas we exchanged memberships in order to keep up-to-date with each other, and explore how we can possibly align ourselves”, says Hannelore Leavy, Executive Director of the Day Spa Association. “Now with the ‘green’ movement all around us, I think the time has come for these two industries to grow closer together and support each other”, adds Leavy.
All Things Organic™ will be held in Chicago at McCormick Place June 16 – 18, 2009.
The Day Spa Association, in addition to be present on the tradeshow floor – booth 1637 in the Health & Wellness Section – will also conduct the following workshop:
Wednesday 6/17 from 12:30-1:30
Looking to enter or increase your sales to the spa industry?
Knowing something about the needs and expectations of spa owners and their clients will help you succeed.
Eric Light, President of the Strawberry Hill Group and a member of the Day Spa Association Board of Advisors will share with you the Association’s profile of a spa-goer, as well as preliminary data from their current study of spa-goer retail habits.
This session is a must for those wanting to succeed in the spa market.
DSA’s current study on the marketing demographics of a day spa-goer will be available to conference attendees FREE of charge when attending the seminar.
As more and more businesses, and especially spa businesses and their clients are becoming environmental conscious, organic products will have a big influence in products used in a spa setting, as well as attract the right consumer in their 21st Century spa.
They invite all DSA + IMSA members who are planning to come to Chicago, to call our offices or email Barbara@dayspaassociation.com to get their free VIP pass, which will entitle them to visit the exhibit floor and listen to the keynote address – another benefit from the DSA.

Renowned destination spa haven introduces new Olympic-length pool to its health and fitness program
VISTA, CA Cal-a-Vie® Health Spa, the leading destination health spa resort, introduced its Olympic-length pool as part of the property’s latest multi-million dollar expansion commissioned by Cal-a-Vie owners John and Terri Havens.
The 250,000 gallon, four-racing-lanes wide, saline pool offers Cal-a-Vie guests an aquatic retreat for fitness classes, lap swimming, private swimming lessons and leisure. Switching chlorine for saline as an additive to the water allows guests to enjoy the benefits of softer skin and hair, as well as knowing the saline pool is environmentally and ecologically enhanced.
The fitness team at Cal-a-Vie Health Spa will use the new Olympic-length pool for water fitness classes, promoting cardiovascular health, strength and core training. Water exercise provides guests a less physically taxing way to meet fitness goals as well as push the limits of what they previously thought they could do only on land. Even though spring-like weather and sun-drenched temperatures are common to Cal-a-Vie’s Southern California location, the new pool will remain heated to 82 degrees, making lap swimming and water fitness classes available to guests year-round. Daily water fitness classes will include deep water exercises with a flotation belt, strength training with resistance bands, cardiovascular conditioning with leg floats and kickboards, the use of HydroBikes and more.
The pool’s perimeter overflow design brings the water level with the surface of the deck, providing a jaw-dropping illusion of a large shimmering mirror, resting on the deck. More than a million pieces of mosaic glass line the bottom and sides of the pool. The overflow drains and 5,000 square feet of deck are made of imported Greek limestone. Antique materials and fixtures, such as the entry gate and lighting, are featured throughout the pool area, carrying out the French Provencal-inspired decor present throughout the spa grounds at Cal-a-Vie.
With a pool cabana offering four stations for private outdoor massages, guests can enjoy a relaxing treatment or sunbathe on one of the 20 lounge chairs and unwind. The tranquil sounds of an antique mermaid-and-Neptune fountain plus a scrolling panoramic view of farm-dotted hills and majestic mountains add a serene, picture-perfect experience.
Soon to follow the new Olympic-length pool will be a complimentary 4,500 square foot Aquatic Center adjacent to the pool deck and cabana. The Aquatic Center will house four treatment rooms for body and spa treatments, men’s and women’s Jacuzzis, a steam room and Watsu pool.
