Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa Reopens Following the Southern California Wildfire Crisis

 lake-arrowhead-resort-and-spa.png

Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa has resumed normal hotel operations effective today, following the recent wildfires in Southern California. The Resort and surrounding area were not affected by the fires, as the closest wildfire activity was in Grass Valley (four miles away) and Running Springs (seven miles away). The main area of Lake Arrowhead, The Village, Cedar Glenn and Blue Jay fortunately remained out of harm’s way, and all are prepared to welcome visitors back to the thriving and picturesque mountain community.

Last week, the Resort ceased operations and opened its doors to more than 400 firefighters and rescue workers to provide a safe and convenient command center for emergency personnel in need of rest and nourishment. A team of eight dedicated resort employees worked around the clock to ensure constant support for all emergency personnel.

“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the men and women who risked their lives on behalf of our mountain community, and we at Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa feel honored to have been able to lend a helping hand,” says Peter Henry, General Manager. “We were extremely fortunate to not be affected, and all guests visiting our beautiful resort will not experience any effects of the recent wildfire activity.”

Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa recently debuted an extensive $19 million renovation, featuring 173 redesigned guestrooms and suites, a new fine-dining restaurant, BIN189, and the full-service Spa of the Pines. Located at 5,100 feet above sea level in a distinctive alpine setting, the resort offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountain community and has been welcoming guests since 1982. This lakefront property offers guests private beach access to one of Southern California’s most exclusive lakes. Nearby activities include shopping and dining just steps away at Lake Arrowhead Village, golf, hiking and year-round ice-skating on an Olympic size rink.

Greetings From the Chopra Center

chopra-center-la-costa-ca.png

I received this note from the Deepak Chopra and the Chopra Center and wanted to pass it on:

It has been an emotionally and environmentally turbulent time as wildfires have brought devastation on a massive scale to the people and the land of southern California. As the fires raged to our north, south and east over the past week, the Chopra Center remained structurally sound and visually unscathed except for smoke-filled skies. Over the past few days, our sleepy beach community of Carlsbad has gotten back up to speed as the once soot-filled air has been replaced with sweet, fresh ocean breezes.

Many of you reached out to the Center over the past week, sharing your healing intentions and your concern for our welfare. We are grateful for your emails and phone calls filled with warm wishes and loving prayers. Our 75 Chopra Center family members are safe and we are grateful that we can continue to work to help people throughout the world balance, heal and transform.

This week each of us was given the opportunity to determine what we truly value in this life. Never is that made clearer than when you are instructed to load up the things that matter most and drive away from your home with the expectation that what you didn’t take will be lost forever.

In this period of deep reflection, we acknowledge with appreciation the lives of our Chopra Center family members and the millions around the planet in our extended family. You are the life force that brings the daily purpose to our organization and helps make it the global source for personal fulfillment, emotional and physical healing, and the achievement of higher consciousness.

We know that the world has a great need for healing at all levels. To make this process easier and more accessible, we are offering every Namasté reader who wants to attend our Healing the Heart program February 22-24 in Carlsbad, California the opportunity to bring a friend, lover, spouse, or family member for free. In the nurturing setting of the Chopra Center, you will learn how to let go of emotional struggle, open your heart, and share the gifts you were born to express. Join us for a profound experience of our infinite capacity for healing and love.

Miami’s newest resort debuts January 2008

Gansevoort South Hotel Spa Residences, To Debut In South Beach January 2008

Following the success of the Hotel Gansevoort in Manhattan, Gansevoort Hotel Group is expanding with the January 2008 opening of the Gansevoort South Hotel, Spa and Residences, South Beach’s most complete luxury lifestyle resort.

The 334-room Gansevoort South hotel is infusing glamour into the north end of Collins Avenue (between 23rd and 24th Streets), widely considered to be the next epicenter of South Beach. The landmark site (once home to the historic Roney Plaza) has been transformed into a lifestyle destination complete with a 334-room hotel and 259 condominiums. The property will feature the flagship DavidBartonGym + Spa, a full city block of luxury boutiques (including the first Miami outposts of INCA, Big Drop and Cutler), an intimate lounge by The Opium Group, restaurants by Philippe Chow and The ONE Group’s STK, and a shark tank with 27 types of fish and sharks that spans 50 feet of the dramatic lobby.

Like the New York hotel, the signature feature of Gansevoort South will be a 26,000-square-foot rooftop retreat, arguably the largest rooftop playground in the world. A tropical oasis dotted with coco palm trees and whimsical cabanas, the rooftop features a 110-foot elevated swimming pool and Plunge bar and lounge. Soaring eighteen floors high, it will offer uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami.

Originally constructed in the 1960’s in the classic Art Deco style of South Beach, the building is being entirely redesigned around a private beach club that will anchor the development and serve as its centerpiece and central gathering spot. On the main level, a 40,000-square-foot semi-circular oceanfront pool plaza boasts an infinity-edge pool trimmed with Bisazza glass tiles in shades of blue and gold. Teak decking, towering palm trees, oversized circular beds, plush cabanas and tented alcoves surround the pool, creating a relaxing enclave.

In between the pool deck and beach club a private cabana level is tucked into the building, offering a quiet sanctuary with ocean views. Acclaimed Nikki Beach designer Stephane Dupoux brings his signature style to the beach level which features the club’s main bar, seating area, oversized lounges, cabanas, volleyball courts, and fire pits.
DavidBartonGym + Spa

National fitness icon David Barton is opening the newest incarnation of his popular gym and his first-ever spa product at Gansevoort South. The 40,000-square-foot flagship location will include a luxurious spa, yoga studios, and private training.

Gourmet Dining Destinations
Gansevoort South will include a new restaurant by Philippe Chow, longtime chef at the legendary Mr. Chow in New York. Serving Philippe’s signature contemporary Chinese cuisine, this two-story, 9,000-square-foot restaurant on the corner of Collins Avenue and 23rd Street will be his first restaurant to open outside of New York City.

Trendsetting STK restaurant will also open its second location outside of Manhattan at Gansevoort South. Maintaining the quality of a traditional steakhouse while reinventing the ambience, clientele and atmosphere, STK first introduced the steakhouse to a young, sexy market in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and now brings that successful model to South Beach.

OPEN! A Message From Rancho La Puerta - the original destination spa

rancho-la-puerta-reopens.png

Saturday, October 27, 2007: We are open for business and the Ranch is fine. Our thanks go out to all who were concerned about our well-being. We are incredibly blessed. Our home, Baja California, has been spared the enormity of the fires that have bedeviled San Diego County to the north, and our prayers are with all of our San Diego, California, amigos y amigas. The Ranch did suffer some damage to its most outlying areas from a fire, but this blaze was not part of the massive Harris or Witch fires in San Diego. Some of our most remote cottages at the furthest edges of the gardens (where landscaped grounds meet our wildlands nature preserve) have been closed for what we consider to be relatively minor repairs. The vast heart of the Ranch and all its central facilities and accommodations were untouched. Our organic farm and new cooking school are also fine.

To make a reservation, please call our U.S. Reservations office at 800-443-7565.

We look forward to providing the complete Ranch experience of rest, renewal, and retreat!
