New Spa Offers Travelers Relaxation

FORT WORTH, Texas — Many tired travelers are discovering a new spot for a little rest and rejuvenation at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

The airport now has a spa in one of the terminals. It turns out the airport spa business is booming across the country.

“We have people walking by. They say, ‘Oh my God, a spa,’” XpresSpa owner Edwardo Rodriguez said. “Our clientele is like, ‘This is fabulous. This is what we needed. We’re so glad you’re here.”

XpresSpa is opening full service spas in airports all over the world offering “massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing,” Rodriguez said.

It caters to travelers on the go, even if they only have 10 or 15 minutes to spare.

Felicia Cook was changing planes at D/FW, on the way from Washington to California, when she saw the sign.

“It was a perfect pit stop — better than stopping to get food or anything,” Cook said.

The spa opened in June and it has done so well that the company is planning to open a second one in another terminal.

The company has 14 spas under construction at airports around the world, adding to the 13 it currently operates, proving it is one arrival weary travelers have been waiting for.

The company’s second spa at D/FW will open in February inside Terminal D.

PRCONSULTANTS GROUP UNWRAPS RESULTS OF HOLIDAY GIFT CARD SURVEY

Spa Gift Certificates / Spa Gift Cards / Holiday Spa Promotions

Despite economy, holiday survey shows gift cards are better to give than to receive

The PRConsultants Group Inc., a nationwide network of retail public relations specialists, today released the results of a national survey exploring some of the habits of holiday shoppers in relation to gift cards. One of the most interesting findings showed that 91 percent of respondents plan to give as many or more gift cards than last year, but traditional wrapped gifts top their own wish lists (62 percent). The survey also revealed that though 73 percent of respondents said they would give the same number of gift cards as last year, 18 percent said they would buy more gift cards… a positive sign as we enter the nation’s biggest selling season.

“The season is looking bright, but when it comes to gift cards, it may be better to give than to receive,” said Brian Knox, spokesperson for The PRConsultants Group and director of strategic services at Zeppos & Associates, a Milwaukee-based public relations firm. “Respondents said they like to give gift cards because they provide flexibility and enjoy widespread acceptance, but they’re hesitant to let go of the time-honored tradition of opening colorfully wrapped packages. True to the global trend toward personalization of consumer goods, gift-giving should truly be a personal decision by the giver, and uniquely customized for the recipient.”

Overall, 61 percent of respondents in the survey indicated they will shop in-store, while 36% said they will shop online. The survey found that the most common types of gift cards were for retail (32%), spa (29%), restaurant (25%), entertainment (8%), and home/garden (6%). Over half (57%) of shoppers said they will spend $25 on average per gift card this year; 34% will spend $50 and 4% $75; only 2% of the respondents indicated they will spend $100 or more.

Palestine, TX — Since opening Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch four years ago, Jamie Pettiette-Rhone has always strived to bring the best, most up-to-date spa treatments to the people of Palestine.

Starting out on her own as a certified skin care therapist (or aesthetician) on Mallard Street, Rhone later moved her business to a larger location on Palestine Avenue and added treatments like Ionithermie and Aqua Detox as well as massage therapy to her operation.

“I am always educating myself on the latest treatments and trends out there so I can offer them to my clients,” she said in a recent interview. “I want to make people feel better, both inside and out.”

In keeping up with the day spa’s growth Rhone has added a larger staff, including two massage therapists, Christine Pennington and Kelly Neal; three hair stylists Sondra Walker, Karen Buth and Jamie Lipsey; a barber, Georgia Neal and a second aesthetician Amy Gordan. Pennington also serves as the spa’s nail tech.

Rhone herself also has boosted her own credentials, recently becoming a licensed massage therapist and a Hollywood Expressions makeup artist.

“To see how the business has grown over the last four years is the dream I have always had for it,” Rhone said. “I have a great group of technicians here, all with unique talents.”

In addition to her ever-expanding services, Rhone also strives to grow her product line. She has added a new makeup line, Jane Iredale, to her list of spa-quality product offerings as well as Eye Kandy and liquid detox kits.

“Jane Iredale is the highest quality makeup one can buy,” Rhone said. “There are no fragrances, chemicals or FD&C dyes in it — nothing that is questionable for your skin.

“It can only be purchased from cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists or from a licensed skin care professional,” she added.

Other products and services offered at Jamie’s include: a second Aqua Detox machine; the Dermalogica skin care line; customized spa packages for couples, bridal parties, etc.; at-home spa parties; cellulite treatments; weight-loss patches; Tahitian Noni products; chocolate manicures and pedicures; eyebrow and eyelash dyeing; facials and body wraps.

“I want to thank my clients for believing in me and what I am trying to do for the people of Palestine,” Rhone said. “I thank them for their loyalty, their trust and support of my business for the last four years.

On Tuesday Nivala and Company Salon will open an expanded facility in Rosemount. And with its opening Rosemount residents will be able to get a spa experience in their own backyard.

The day before its second anniversary, Nivala will reveal its new reception, nail care and spa space to the community. And while the salon has nearly doubled its square footage, owner Sara Nivala said it still has the comforting atmosphere the salon has always tried to maintain.

“I want it to feel relaxing and warm,” Nivala said of her salon.

In only two years, Sara Nivala, pictured above, has expanded her salon. On Tuesday Nivala and Company Salon will open its new addition that house nail and spa services.

In only two years, Sara Nivala, pictured above, has expanded her salon. On Tuesday Nivala and Company Salon will open its new addition that house nail and spa services.

Nivala said it was hard to imagine melding her homey salon and the shell of the old dry cleaner together but they were able to do it. She said the salon area and the new addition blend as if they were always together.

The addition houses the salon’s new services that include full nail care and spa services. The salon portion has remained the same.

Since the salon opened Nivala said customers have requested nail care. Because of the small space, she said, they weren’t able to do it. But with the addition, the salon will have a full room dedicated to nails.

The newest beauty technology available has been installed in the nail room to offer 100 percent sanitary manicures and pedicures. Special doors separate the room to stop odors from bothering other salon customers.

As for products, Nivala said the salon will carry OPI and Qtica. To provide nail care, Nivala hired Louann Hyrkas, who has worked with nails since 1991.

For those looking to really indulge, Nivala said two spa rooms will provide a place for customers to have a full spa day of beauty complete with massages and facials.

The spa rooms reflect the warm tones of the salon but also provide a tranquil atmosphere where people can relax.

“It’s a retreat close to home,” Nivala said.

Up front the salon will have considerably more reception and retail space. Nivala said the expansion is a reflection of what customers have asked for. She said so far the salon has flourished and she will continue to try and meet the needs of her customers.

Nivala and Company Salon is a full service hair salon. The salon will introduce its expansion to the community Tuesday, Nov. 20. A formal celebration is being planned.

Nivala is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
