Current and Former Owners React to Spa Shutdown

* Latham Spa Shuts Doors Without Warning

New information on the sudden closure of Beaux Visages spa in Latham. Turns out the company’s founder and former owner of that location was pursuing legal action against the spa’s current owner.

He founded Beaux Visages back in 1985. Jack Dennis prides himself on running a high quality business offering massages, facials and custom skin care products. He owns and operates the Guilderland spa. The one in Latham was sold in 2006 to Cheryl Anne and Alan Jones.

Jack Dennis said, “Within 60 days they started changing everything and the effect on their revenue was apparent.”

Dennis still owns the rights to the name, Beaux Visages, and has been pursuing legal action against the Jones’ since July because he says they were performing botox and laser treatments; things that violated the original licensing agreement.

Dennis said, “We were filing our papers for a default judgment and for a permanent injunction forcing them to remove the sign.”

But before there was any decision, the Jones’ shut the doors at the Latham Farms spa on Friday without any warning leaving employees without a job and final pay as well as scores of clients with outstanding pre-paid spa packages.

FOX23 News called Alan Jones at his home downstate. He told us he’s “In negotiations to have someone take over procedures,” but he wouldn’t tell us where.

As far as the dozen employees not being paid he said bluntly, “He’s not sure what’s going to happen.” Pressed further he couldn’t make any guarantees they would see their money.

Jones claims two former employees stole client lists and opened up their own business. He told FOX23 News, “He lost so much business. There wasn’t enough cash flow.”

The Guilderland spa has been bombarded with calls from concerned Latham clients. Jack Dennis says, while he’s not obligated, he’ll honor their gift certificates at 50 percent of whatever the face value is.

Dennis said, “We’re gonna do whatever we can to protect them.”

Not only is Beaux Visages Guilderland stepping up to help but Amy Serotta of Serotta’s Day Spa in Clifton Park will offer 25 percent off to former Latham Beaux Visages customers.
