Simonson’s Salon Makes Exclusive List of Top 25 Women-Owned Businesses
Company makes 2008 Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal listing for fourth time

Simonson’s Salon & Day Spa has made the exclusive 2008 “Top 25 List of Women-Owned Businesses” for the fourth time. The list, which Simonson’s Salon also made in 2004, 2005 and 2006, is published by The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. Simonson’s Salon & Day Spa is the only Twin Cities salon to be included on the list.

“Making the top 25 list of women-owned businesses is an honor in so many ways. It is a particular distinction to be listed among such well-respected women like Marilyn Carlson Nelson of the Carlson Companies,” said Kyle Simonson, owner/president of Simonson’s Salon & Day Spa, which offers hair, face, body nail and medspa services and products for men and women.

Under Simonson’s leadership, the salon has grown significantly along with its’ reputation for high quality services. From 12 employees and one salon in Anoka in 1983, to a staff of over 200 and four salon and spa locations in Anoka, Maple Grove, Elk River and Plymouth, Simonson’s has expanded to become an industry leader in the Twin Cities area.

“In the salon and spa profession, the path to success is never a paved highway; but rather a dirt road littered with potholes,” she explained. “Many a fledgling entrepreneur in this competitive industry has been swept away by a deluge of seemingly endless minutiae and insurmountable challenges. Simonson’s has not only survived; we’ve flourished.”

Women entrepreneurs are among the fastest growing groups of business owners - both locally and nationally. For the past two decades, majority women-owned firms continued to grow at around two times the rate of all firms (42 percent vs. 24 percent), according to the Center for Women’s Business Research.

“I believe this important acknowledgement of our success has the power to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurial women to achieve greatness. As the leader of an organization comprised primarily of women, this honor also communicates the key message that ’small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises’,” observed Simonson.
