The American Club, the Midwest’s only AAA Five Diamond Resort Hotel provides country elegance in the charming Village of Kohler, less than an hour north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The resort offers a host of diversions year-round, including award-winning golf courses Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits; the Kohler Waters Spa; and special events such as the Kohler Food & Wine Experience, Christmas Kohler and a Spring Garden Market.

Just over an hour’s drive north of Milwaukee, in the company town of Kohler, Wisconsin, this resort is a reflection of plumbing-fixtures kingpin Herb Kohler’s exceptional taste. It offers four Pete Dye courses and superb off-course amenities. Kohler Waters Spa, located adjacent to the American Club, takes full advantage of its namesake’s long history in the fixture and bath business. Water plays a part in just about everything at this spa, from the design (waterfalls abound from the relaxation pool to some treatment rooms) to the services (water therapies such as aromatherapy baths are the highlight). A new rooftop deck includes both an outdoor sunning space and an indoor lounge. The spa offers a complete menu for couples and specialty treatments for men, including scrubs, baths and a golfer’s massage.

Guests at the distinguished American Club enjoy the special opportunity to play the breathtaking golf courses at Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits.

Blackwolf Run, built on a tract of land sculpted by glacier run-off tens of thousands of years ago, offers an award-winning 36 holes of championship golf in Kohler, Wisconsin. Its two 18-hole courses have been skillfully carved out of the natural environment and are designed for golfers who appreciate the game’s great traditions. Both courses at Blackwolf Run, the River Course and the Meadow Valleys Course, were designed by renowned course architect Pete Dye and given names to reflect the natural features of the terrain. Seeing the proposed tract of land for Blackwolf Run for the first time, Dye said, “There could not be a better natural setting for golf.”

Whistling Straits, which opened in 1998, offers two courses of dynamic contrast. Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines the Straits Course sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Just inland, interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland-and-dunes aspect of the Irish Course is a deceivingly tranquil landscape. In 1999, its first year of eligibility, the Straits Course was ranked 67th on Golf Magazine’s prestigious list of the “Top 100 Courses in the World”. The same magazine placed Straits 35th among the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” (Sept. 1999)
