Botanical Skin Care

Which are the best botanical skincare lines?

Mrs. Spa,

I really enjoy aromatherapy and botanical product lines. Which botanical skincare lines should I consider?

Michelle in Overland Park, KS

Dear Michelle,

As you may have read last week, I am a believer in the positive effects of aromatherapy. There are particular essentials oils that I always have with me. When it comes to the spa skincare lines with botanicals, the quality and variety is exceptional. When considering which product line is right for you, you need to consider your skin type; the skin challenges that you want to improve upon or minimize, your budget, and the number of products you feel comfortable in using.

You can review some of the product lines at the spa shop and view the skin care products recommended for your skin type. This will give you a quick look at the products and the costs. Next, make sure that the ingredients do not contain anything that you may be allergic to. Sisley is probably the premier company, offering some of the best quality in essential oils. There are other well known, well-revered botanical lines, Aveda, Pevonia, Dr. Hauschka, and Decleor, Yonka to name a few.

You may want to review the Spavelous “Now You Are In The Know” article on Which spa skincare products are right for you. This will give you insight into each of the brands.

While I rotate all of my skincare lines to prevent me from developing allergies and I find it enhances my results, I have favorites within each line. For Botanical Haircare I like Aveda. For antiaging I like Sisley. Dr. Hauschka Skin Care Products are an excellent choice to consider. In fact, these products are actually used by a variety of Hollywood stars, including Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Dias, and even Julia Roberts. Dr. Hauschka is a totally natural and pure line, but if you have a peanut allergy be cautious.

If you are considering a product line for a spa and not for your personal use. There are other concerns that you should look into. Distribution, minimum product orders, initial start-up orders, how much support the product line gives you with marketing, and the promotion of your spa. You should review these product sites to see if they provide a list of locations where the product may be purchased. Remember, a product line that does not inform consumers where they may purchase the products and experience the treatments is not a partner and is not marketing your spa, they are not helping you to build your business. You should consider another product line.

If you are not a spa, and you are a consumer looking for the product for yourself, I recommend that you locate a spa in your area that has the product line you are interested in and have a spa treatment. This will allow you to learn firsthand about the product and see how your skin responds to it. You may find a spa in your area that carries these products on Spavelous’ Spa Locator by Product Line. You may also locate spas in your area that carry a specific spa product by typing the product name in the keyword area and entering your state.
