The Closing of an Iconic Spa Empire: What Happened to Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spas & Mynd Successor Bankruptcy:

ALL Red Door branded Spas Have Been Closed, but …

Elizabeth Arden stands as an iconic pioneer of the modern spa and beauty industry, building an empire founded on female empowerment. In 1910, she opened her first “Red Door” named spa, promising clients “an oasis where women could relax, rejuvenate and be pampered.” Over a century later, the signature Red Door Spas still symbolized glamor and luxury experiences synonymous with the Arden name.

Though Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa Locations Have Closed, Their Enchantment Lingers

However, in 2019, global investment firm HBC made the decision to sell Arden’s spa business to management group Clos Du Bois Spa Holdings LLC. They ambitiously rebranded the Red Door Spas into a successor dubbed “Mynd Spas & Salons,” aiming to honor Arden’s legacy with modernized services. Tragically, the shift proved ill-fated.

The rebranding occurred just before the devastating impacts COVID-19 had on the spa industry in 2020. With statewide closures and restrictive policies hampering operations, Mynd Spa struggled to establish itself. Less than a year after Mynd’s flashy launch, Clos Du Bois shocked industry insiders by abruptly shuttering all locations in early 2020, sinking the remnants of Arden’s spa empire.

Ultimately, the failed rebrand is a cautionary tale of how even iconic spa chains must adapt to compete in today’s market, prioritizing a holistic wellness approach. As seen in the demise of Mynd Spas and transitions away from Red Door, paying lip service to “wellness” without genuinely embracing the shift in consumer values leaves venerable brands struggling to stay profitable or relevant.

The age of Elizabeth Arden’s “pampering palace” is waning. What spa-goers want in 2023 is an integrative experience catering to their overall physical, mental, and spiritual health.  Back to Nature, Seed to Table, all truly organic products are the way of the future.
