We are sorry to report that, due to economic conditions beyond our control, fig. ceased operations on December 7, 2007. The company closed the doors of 17 of its 18 centers around the country. The only center that will remain open is the Costa Mesa, CA facility, which is an independently owned and operated center.
The company is currently consulting with counsel and will likely seek legal relief under the bankruptcy code to ensure it preserves all options including the ability to reorganize and continue operations.
Current patients undergoing treatment will be contacted by the company regarding continued treatment options or making a refund claim. Please check this web site for the latest information.
The Costa Mesa clinic still offers LipoDissolve, but that isn’t the site’s main focus, said Brian Stern, president of Fig Pacific Management Co., which owns the clinic. Its most frequent services are nutrition counseling and SmartLipo, a minimally invasive outpatient version of liposuction, Stern said.
The medical director of Fig Medical Body Shaping is Dr. Terry Dubrow, a board-certified plastic surgeon, Stern said. The center has a full-time medical staff, with a physician present at all times. SmartLipo and LipoDissolve treatments are provided by physicians, he said.
Nationally, Fig had been expanding rapidly – growing from three centers in the St. Louis area two years ago – but ran into money problems and laid off workers starting last month, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
The company said it “will likely seek legal relief under the bankruptcy code to ensure it preserves all options including the ability to reorganize and continue operations.”
