Red nails or the clear and white polish or a French manicure?

Mansfield, Ohio:  That was the tough question Linda Crum wrestled with during a recent trip to Allure Studios Day Spa. Seated in the pedicure chair while nail technician Heidi Hoffer worked on her feet, the Lucas woman had already enjoyed a massage.

Her toes gleaming with Soho Nice to Meet polish, Mansfielder Jo Gibson got a manicure from Jena Prats. Using gift certificates, this was her first visit to the day spa.
“But I think I’ll be back,” she said. “The facial was wonderful. I’ve never had a facial before.”

Those are the kind of reactions Peggy Jacobsen hopes for in the new venture next to her Allure Studios Hair Salon. Located in the former Brenda’s Garden Day Spa, the two-story facility offers services including spray-on tanning, body wraps, facials and various forms of massage.

She owned her own spa in Fort Myers, Fla., before moving here 10 years ago to take care of her ailing 95-year-old grandmother.

Jacobsen opened Allure Studios in 2007, buying a building already set up for a salon.

Little renovation was needed, except for the upstairs area that was used as an apartment.  The spa is in a separate building for a quieter, more soothing atmosphere.

Men are customers, too.  Jeremy Dilley, a 26-year-old Mansfield man, strolled in for an aqua massage.  “It feels great,” he said of the sessions in the bed complete with music. “In the winter time you come in and it feels good on the muscles.”

Thirteen stylists and technicians work at Allure Studios. Jacobsen said some people have called requesting an aesthetician, but she tells them licensed cosmetologists can do skin care along with other services.  “Cosmetology covers it all,” she said.
