Behind all that extreme grooming—the makeup, the Botox, the $1,000 haircuts, the borrowed Harry Winston jewels and Cavalli gowns—Hollywood stars are mere mortals like the rest of us. Which means that they, too, benefit from both the relaxation and grooming services that a spa can provide. Maybe Gwyneth wants to minimize her pores for a photo shoot, or Matthew Fox needs a Pilates session to prep for that big action scene, or Britney needs a detoxifying treatment to recover from—well, from just being Britney. We non-celeb types may never have to withstand the scrutiny of Joan and Melissa Rivers (thankfully), but we can treat ourselves to top-tier treatments. Here, 11 spas that are darlings of the red carpet set.
The Bathhouse at Calistoga Ranch
Where: Napa Valley, California Hey, Isn’t That…? The rustic-chic bungalows draw romantic duos like Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, but a visit is no guarantee of lasting love: Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow broke off their engagement after staying here. Still, Marcia Cross’s beau popped the question at Calistoga Ranch, which may explain why fellow Desperate Housewife Teri Hatcher—who seems to be as haplessly boy-crazy as her TV character—also stopped in. All-Star Treatment: The 150-minute Calistoga Cure ($350) includes a mineral mud bath, linen wrap, and “polarity therapy”—gentle rocking and touch to release energy blockages. The Dirt: Teri seems like she could use some gentle rocking, but nobody’s buying the Ryan Seacrest thing.

Where: New York City Hey, Isn’t That…? Many A-listers wouldn’t be caught dead above 125th Street, unless they’re popping into Bill Clinton’s Harlem office—or they’re due for a wax. Gals like Uma Thurman, Natasha Richardson, and Kyra Sedgwick head to this upper Manhattan hideout, where famed aesthetician Joanna Czech plies her craft. All-Star Treatment: No body double for the lingerie scene? The Brazilian bikini wax ($55) and the ultra moisturizing Honey Milk Body Wrap ($135) are your ticket. The Dirt: Richardson and Sedgwick have taken advantage of the spa’s self-tanning service, but Sava was not responsible for Theron’s 2005 Oscars tanorexia.

Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain
Where: Scottsdale, Arizona Hey, Isn’t That…? Sanctuary’s luxe villas, built into the side of Camelback Mountain, attract megawatt couples desperate to escape photographers, including Britney Spears and Kevin Federline and Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. All-Star Treatment: The ultra-intimate spa is famous for its deep-tissue massage ($135) and signature Table Thai treatment ($215). The Dirt: The paparazzi shots of Brit and K-Fed making out on their balcony wasn’t a sign of grand passion; they were filming scenes for their reality disaster, Chaotic.

Where: New York City Hey, Isn’t That…? Cornelia has become New York’s facial mecca for famous teens and Botox queens. It also pulls mother/daughter duos, including Lindsay Lohan and mom Dina and the D-list Gastineau Girls. Fence jumper Katie Couric has also reaped the tightening benefits of legendary facialist Cornelia Zicu’s expertise. All-Star Treatment: Daughters dig the Cornelia Signature Facial ($175); moms go for the Microablation Facial, which uses a saline solution to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and surgical scars ($380). The Dirt: Couric will soon have more morning time to spend on personal matters. But we’re guessing you’d never have caught Cronkite here.
