New York Beach Spas

Gurney's Inn Resort & Spa

Gurney's Inn Resort & Spa, Montauk, NY

Nestled among the dunes of Montauk, New York, at the very tip of Long Island, Gurney's Inn Resort, Spa and Conference Center has for years been a place for the stressed to escape the pressures of the city and life. Its spectacular ocean views and remote, wild, windswept setting, combined with one of the nation's few true seawater pools and other amenities render it a true year-round destination for romantic getaways.

If you’re looking for the epitome of pampering, combined with a gorgeous locale, not many places can beat Gurney's Inn. As ocean breezes envelop you, and therapeutic sea water permeates your being, stress magically melts away. Although this retreat is situated on a private white sand beach at the tip of Long Island, you feel as if you're far from the frantic pace of civilization, even though midtown Manhattan is only a three-hour drive away.

One of this spa's claims to fame is that it's the only one is the U.S. that features "true" Thalasso therapy. These detoxifying, relaxing, and circulation-promoting hydrotherapy treatments, using filtered sea water gathered from the nearby Atlantic, are truly special. After one session, you emerge renewed and ready to face the world again.

The cozy spa sitting area feels like you're lounging at a friend's seaside spread. It's a great place to kick back while waiting for your body treatment, massage, or facial. Since the facility is known for its water therapy, and recently got brand new computerized state-of-the-art tubs, the hydrotherapy treatments should not be missed ($65; all spa and salon charges are also subject to an 18% service charge). You immerse yourself in the oversized tub that's filled with filtered, mineral rich ocean water heated to body temperature. Jets massage your muscles from various angles as you float into a deep state of relaxation.

The Baker House 1650, East Hampton, NY

The Baker House

The magnificently refurbished Baker House 1650 (formerly the J. Harper Poor Cottage) in East Hampton has been recognized as one of the finest luxury inns in the United States. It was named “Inn of the Month” by Travel and Leisure magazine, and Town and Country said the cottage “offers the kind of plush accommodations that you’d expect to find in an area famous for its residential real estate”. Time Out New York said “the most distinctive B&B on the East End is so mind-bogglingly gorgeous that it’s hard to believe anyone is actually allowed to sleep here.”

The last thing one would expect in a historic 1648 house is a state-of-the-art spa facility, but this is what one finds on descending the paneled staircase leading to the lower level. A lap pool, spa tub, sauna, steam shower, and change room comprise the spa and although it is modern in every aspect.
